Product Overview

Screw Shank Nails are steel nails with a helical or spiral-profiled shank that rotates as the nail is driven into wood. They are also commonly called Spiral Shank Nails, Screw Nails, or Spiral Nails. Unlike smooth shank nails, the twisted shank creates a mechanical interlock with the surrounding wood fibers, increasing resistance to withdrawal. This makes screw shank nails particularly useful where joints are exposed to vibration, impact, or repeated handling.

The screw shank is the defining feature of this nail type. As the nail penetrates the timber, the spiral profile causes the fastener to turn and form a thread-like path in the wood. This improves holding performance while retaining the installation method of a conventional nail. Screw shank nails are commonly selected for hardwood and dense timber applications where a smooth shank may provide insufficient withdrawal resistance.

Typical applications include wooden pallet assembly, crates, packaging boxes, flooring, timber framing, sheathing, and general woodworking. In pallet and packaging production, the increased withdrawal resistance can help maintain the connection between boards during transportation, handling, and repeated loading. Screw shank nails are also used in applications where the joint may experience vibration or movement.

Common configurations include a flat or round head, pointed tip, and spiral-profiled shank. Depending on the application and purchasing requirements, they can be supplied in different diameters, lengths, materials, and corrosion-resistant finishes. Carbon steel is commonly used for general applications, while stainless steel may be selected where greater corrosion resistance is required.
