DIN 7981 Pan Head Self-Tapping Screws
Product Information
Product Overview
DIN 7981 Pan Head Self-Tapping Screws are pan head tapping screws with a self-tapping thread and a cross-recessed drive. They are commonly identified by the DIN 7981 designation in industrial purchasing and fastener catalogs. The standard covers pointed Type C and flat-end Type F configurations, with drive forms such as Type H cross recess and Type Z Pozidriv. ISO 7049 is the current international reference for cross-recessed pan head tapping screws.
Type C is the common pointed configuration and is used where the screw needs to start readily in a prepared hole. Type F has a flat or blunt end and is selected where a protruding sharp point behind the assembly is undesirable. The drive designation is also important when specifying the product: C-H identifies a cone-point screw with a cross recess H, while C-Z identifies a cone-point screw with a Pozidriv recess. These distinctions should be included in drawings and purchase orders when the exact configuration matters.
These self-tapping screws are commonly used for fastening sheet metal, metal profiles, panels, plastics and other components with pre-formed or pilot holes. Typical applications include electrical enclosures, HVAC components, appliances, light equipment, machinery, furniture hardware and general industrial assemblies. The pan head provides a relatively broad bearing surface while maintaining a compact screw head profile.
DIN 7981 screws are available in standard tapping screw diameters such as ST2.2 through ST6.3, with length selected according to the joint configuration. Common commercial materials include carbon steel and stainless steel such as A2 and A4, with zinc-plated steel frequently used for general-purpose applications and stainless steel selected where greater corrosion resistance is required.
