Knock-in Gypsum Board Expansion Anchors
Product Information
Product Overview
Knock-in Gypsum Board Expansion Anchors are drywall fixing fasteners developed for securing fixtures to gypsum board, plasterboard, and other hollow wall panels. They are also commonly described in the market as knock-in drywall anchors, gypsum board expansion anchors, or ceiling wall hammer anchors. Unlike conventional wall plugs that require a pre-drilled hole, this type of fixing is installed by driving the anchor into the board before tightening the mating screw.
The anchor is intended primarily for light-duty to medium-duty attachment applications where the substrate does not provide the solid mass required by a concrete or masonry anchor. Typical uses include mounting electrical boxes, cable trunking, lightweight brackets, ceiling accessories, panels, and other interior fixtures to drywall or gypsum board. The expansion structure engages behind or within the board as the screw is tightened, helping distribute the load over the surrounding panel.
This product type is generally supplied in carbon steel with a protective zinc-plated finish, although material and finish can vary according to the required configuration. Common commercial versions use a self-drilling or self-tapping screw together with an anchor body configured for quick installation. The exact holding capacity depends on the board thickness, anchor geometry, screw size, installation method, and applied load, so it should not be treated as equivalent to a structural concrete anchor.
