DIN 6916 Structural Washers
Product Information
Product Overview
DIN 6916 structural washers are heavy-duty flat washers developed for high-strength structural bolting in steel construction. The standard has been superseded by EN 14399-6, which specifies plain chamfered washers for preloaded HV structural bolting systems. They are used as part of structural bolting assemblies rather than as general-purpose flat washers.
The defining feature is the washer geometry. Compared with conventional flat washers, DIN 6916 washers have controlled dimensions, greater bearing area, and chamfered edges. The bore, outside diameter, thickness, chamfer, and related dimensional features are standardized for compatibility with high-strength structural bolts and nuts. Standard sizes include M12 through M36, with larger sizes also available in some commercial product ranges.
These washers are commonly identified as EN 14399-6 washers, HV structural washers, or plain chamfered washers for structural bolting. Their relatively large outside diameter distributes the clamping load over a broader area of the connected steel, while the defined geometry supports the dimensional requirements of preloaded structural bolting assemblies.
DIN 6916 washers are primarily associated with steel structures, including structural frames, bridges, industrial structures, and other bolted steel connections where high-strength preloaded assemblies are specified. Selection should match the nominal diameter and the applicable EN 14399 structural bolting system rather than treating the washer as an interchangeable general-purpose washer.
