DIN 315 Wing Nuts
Product Information
Product Overview
DIN 315 Wing Nuts are metric wing nuts with rounded wings, defined by DIN 315:2016-12. The rounded wing profile gives the nut a broad, curved gripping area that can be operated by hand without a conventional wrench. DIN 315 covers sizes from M4 to M24 and is intended for applications where a removable or adjustable threaded connection is required. The product is commonly known simply as a wing nut or rounded-wing wing nut.
The defining feature of DIN 315 is its rounded wing geometry. Compared with thinner stamped wing-nut designs, the rounded form provides a more substantial hand-grip profile and is commonly selected for repeated manual tightening and loosening. DIN 315 can be produced from malleable cast iron, steel, austenitic stainless steel, or copper-zinc alloys, depending on the specified version and application. The standard itself defines the dimensional form rather than limiting the product to one material.
DIN 315 and DIN 314 are both wing nuts, but their wing geometries are different. DIN 315 uses rounded wings, while DIN 314 uses edged wings. The rounded profile of DIN 315 gives the user a fuller gripping surface and a more traditional heavy wing-nut form. DIN 314 has a more angular wing profile and is commonly associated with the American-form or edged-wing configuration. This distinction affects the external geometry, hand grip, appearance, and the appropriate replacement when matching an existing assembly. DIN 315 should therefore not be treated as simply another name for DIN 314.
DIN 315 wing nuts are used in machinery, equipment, fixtures, enclosures, brackets, covers, and other assemblies requiring frequent manual adjustment or removal. For distributors and industrial buyers, specifying the DIN number together with thread size and material helps distinguish the required wing configuration.
