Flat Head Knurled Open End Rivet Nut
Product Information
Product Overview
Flat head knurled open end rivet nuts are blind threaded inserts with a cylindrical body and a low profile flat flange head. The outer surface of the body carries a knurl — a pattern of crossed diagonal or straight serrations — while the internal thread runs through the full length of the body and exits at the bottom.
The knurl is formed on the cylindrical body by a cold forming knurling process. Metal is displaced rather than cut, so the wall thickness and load bearing capacity of the body are preserved. When the rivet nut is set, the knurl teeth press into the hole wall to create a mechanical interlock that resists rotation as the mating screw is tightened or removed. This makes the knurled flat head open end rivet nut suited to joints that are assembled and disassembled repeatedly, where a smooth body insert would eventually spin in the hole.
The open end design means the thread runs through the entire body. A screw longer than the insert can pass completely through, which supports through bolting or the use of extended length fasteners. The flat head sits on the accessible side of the panel and spreads clamp load across the surrounding sheet.
These inserts are used in electrical enclosures, control panels, HVAC housings, automotive body panels, and modular building frames where a reusable threaded connection is needed in material too thin to tap.
